Simplify Search

In 2022 I was brought on board to Expedia to work on a project called “Simplify Search”. The goal of this project was to assess work-in-progress and current trends to understand how we could augment our core Search experience to solve traveler problems from the perspective of three trends:

  1. Increased App usage

  2. AI Advancements changing traditional search paradigms

  3. E-commerce advertising continues to pay huge dividends

The new flow introduces an extra step by putting the search flow behind a button, but proactively helps travelers by allowing them to give more context to their trip up front.

The benefits of additional context become very apparent for trips requiring both lodging and a flight, reducing required interactions by 35%.
